Why One-Way Hallways Are Safer Than Two-Way Hallways
Abstract
Although various methods have been implemented to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in hallways, little research compares one-way hallways to two-way hallways and the potential benefits either hallway model can provide. This study simulates the two hallway scenarios using a Python script and the effects of various parameters such as the number of pedestrians, the size of the environment, and the velocity of pedestrians. A total of five simulations were run for each scenario, and the two datapoints recorded were the average contact times and the number of close contacts. Using all of the data, we determine the safest hallway model to minimize viral risk and the methods to minimize transmission.
